The Positive Award
503 received the first ever Relentless Positive Action Award from Governor Rick Snyder
At the 2016 MI FRC State Championship, a new award was introduced in recognition of the contributions and support of Governor Rick
Snyder to FIRST Robotics in our state. The Relentless Positive Action Award is a three part award that is given to teams and mentors in the FIRST community who embody these notable qualities. 503 was honored to recieve the inaugural Positive Award.
This award recognizes a team that is committed to going above and beyond to establish and grow FIRST programs. Our sustained support of the Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation’s FIRST Robotics program was cited as a key element to our selection. This support included working alongside other stakeholders to establish their community build site, hosting FRC/FTC workshops, and continuing to create and mentor DHDC teams at all levels. We are currently working to establish another community build site in the Detroit area in partnership with Mitch Albom’s S.A.Y. Play Detroit program.
Also noted was our open-source, replicable model of our “FIRST Community Night”. This townhall-style gathering provides the forum where community members can learn about the FIRST progression of programs and how they can participate.
